What is an eSIM adapter, and how does it work?

An eSIM adapter is a programmable physical SIM card that holds digital eSIM profiles. You insert it into your device's existing SIM slot, then download carrier profiles onto it using an app or a card reader. Your device treats the adapter as an ordinary SIM card, so it works even on hardware manufactured years before eSIM existed.

Switch adapters follow the GSMA eSIM standard, which means they accept QR-code eSIM profiles from most providers, including Airalo, Holafly, Ubigi, and hundreds of regional carriers.

Does the Switch eSIM Adapter work on iPhone?

Yes—but you’ll need a reader to set it up.

Your iPhone can use an eSIM plan already loaded onto the adapter. But it can’t add, delete, or manage plans on the adapter by itself.
